Biographies – Reinsurance
 | Adam Alvarez – Senior Vice President Adam has been underwriting for the property treaty account since the Bermuda office was started in 2005. He began his insurance career as a consultant at Risk Management Solutions and in 2004 he co-founded a catastrophe modelling consultancy which provided advice and software to the insurance industry. Advisory clients included Hiscox, XL Capital and Aspen Re. He has been responsible for a variety of ILS products including risk swap transactions and Hiscox Bermuda’s catastrophe bond portfolio. Adam read Physics at the University of Oxford and holds an MBA from INSEAD.
| | | |  | Ben Love – Senior Vice President After graduating with a degree in European Finance and Accounting, Ben initially worked for two years at Hilton Malcolm, a Trade Credit Insurer, before joining Greig Fester in 1997. Shortly to become Benfield, he spent just under ten years broking a variety of reinsurance/ retro classes, including trade credit, political risk, terrorism and property, based in first London, Boston and finally Bermuda. Joining Hiscox Bermuda in 2007, Ben underwrites property treaty and has responsibility for business development and broker relations. | | | |  | Bevis Tetlow – Senior Vice President After graduating from the University of Edinburgh, Bevis worked in London as a consultant at the catastrophe modelling company Risk Management Solutions from 2000 - 2004. He was directly involved with and managed a diverse range of projects including: alternative risk transfer transactions, the development of new Lloyds Realistic Disaster Scenario events and various bespoke portfolio analyses. Bevis was also a member of the Lloyd's Market Experts group. Bevis left RMS in 2004 and co founded Hat Consulting Limited with Adam Alvarez. Whilst at Hat, he worked with Hiscox, XL Capital and Gallagher Re successfully combining a blend of industry experience and in-depth understanding of catastrophe modelling with the ability to design and build pricing and reporting applications. Bevis joined Hiscox’s Bermuda operation in November 2005. In addition to his underwriting responsibilities, he is actively involved with in Hiscox’s pricing and portfolio optimisation tools. | | | |  | Philip Vandoninck – Senior Vice President Philip graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Business Studies option Finance and Insurance in 2004 from the University of Antwerp, Belgium. Upon graduating, he joined Hiscox Belgium in the High Value Household and Fine Art team. After 6 months he was promoted to the Hiscox Syndicate in London where he joined the Non Marine treaty reinsurance team. In November 2005 Hiscox Bermuda was set up and Philip was one of the first 5 people to make the move from London to Bermuda. Philip is presently responsible for underwriting catastrophe, risk and pro-rata reinsurance with an emphasis on the European markets. He also mentors and trains new graduate employees. Philip is presently pursuing the ACII. | | | |  | Ross Nottingham - Senior Vice President With a degree in Business Management, Ross joined HWS (now JLT Re) in London in 2000. After 5 years broking property treaty reinsurance, he moved to Benfield to join the Global Specialty team. In 2007 Ross was seconded to the Bermuda office (subsequently Aon Benfield Bermuda) to work on the production and placement of retrocession in Bermuda. Joining Hiscox in January of 2012, Ross underwrites property treaty and has responsibility for business development and broker relations. | | | |  | Chris Pett – Assistant Vice President Chris began his career in reinsurance as a catastrophe modeler at ACE Tempest Re, in 2002. He worked in catastrophe modeling until he was promoted to senior underwriting analyst in late 2005, running the cat modeling team for several years. In mid 2007 he moved into underwriting, working on the Specialty/Trading Desk. In March 2010 he moved on to the International Property Desk and continued in that role until joining the Hiscox Bermuda operation in April 2011. Chris is responsible for both modeling and underwriting property treaty. Chris received a Bachelor of Commerce, and an Associates Degree in Human Resource Management from Saint Mary’s University, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He is currently working towards both his Are and CPCU designations. | | | |
 | Selange Gitschner – Marketing and Executive Assistant to Ben Love, Bevis Tetlow and Philip Vandoninck Selange joined Hiscox Bermuda in November 2009 as Executive Assistant supporting Chris Sharpe. Recently she was promoted to Marketing Assistant and also supports Ben Love, Bevis Tetlow and Philip Vandoninck. Prior to Hiscox, Selange worked in the Architectural & Design industry as a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified Interior Designer at OBM International. Selange graduated with a Bachelors of Arts specializing in Interior Architectural Design /Technology with a minor in Psychology and Vocal Performance from Texas State University. Selange is a proud member of the Hiscox Green Team and assists with organizing various Hiscox Charity Events.
| | | |  | Suzanne Ringold – Vice President In 2000, Suzanne graduated from Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. After graduation she joined a not-for-profit organization and was responsible for database management and web design. Returning to Bermuda in 2001 where she joined a start-up recruitment management company as an Employment Consultant. Five years later Suzanne joined Hiscox Bermuda as a Trainee Underwriter on the property treaty team. | | | |  | David Roache – Assistant Vice President & Actuarial Analyst David graduated with a Bachelors of Commerce specializing in Finance and Actuarial Studies in 2004 from the University of Toronto, Canada. Upon graduating, he joined Rosemont Reinsurance as an Actuarial Student. In December 2005 he joined Ariel Reinsurance, a Bermuda startup using Rosemont’s infrastructure, where he was promoted to Actuarial Analyst. At Ariel Re David was responsible for portfolio management, pricing and building rating models. In 2009 David joined Hiscox Bermuda as an Actuarial Analyst where he is presently involved in a wide range of tasks from risk pricing to business planning. David is currently pursuing his Actuarial designation. | | | |  | Michael Schindel – Modeller Michael graduated with a Bachelors of Science specializing in Management and Aeronautical Science in 2003 from Florida Institute of Technology. Upon graduating, he continued to pursue a career in aviation working for a number of small airlines and charter companies eventually ending up at Berkshire Hathaway’s NetJets, Inc. as a first officer piloting the Citation XLS aircraft. After three years with NetJets Michael decided on a career change that eventually brought him to Hiscox Bermuda. Michael is presently involved in a wide range of tasks from pricing submissions to overseeing the AIR risk modeling portfolio. | | | |  | Alaina Cubbon – Modeller Alaina joined Hiscox Bermuda in April 2010 as an Assistant Modeler in the Property Reinsurance team. Prior to joining the Group, Alaina worked at Catlin Underwriting Agencies Limited in London as an Underwriting Assistant in the Direct and Facultative Property division. Alaina began her career in London on the Wellington Graduate Scheme in 2006 as a Geography graduate from Oxford University. She has completed both her Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ACII) and Certificate in Contract Wording, receiving prizes from the Insurance Institute of London for both qualifications. | | | |  | Nicholas Thuell – Trainee Underwriter Nicholas joined Hiscox Bermuda in September 2010 as the first ever Graduate Trainee. He spent the first year of his career with the Non Marine Treaty team in London, followed up by a brief stint in the Paris office. In February 2012, Nicholas rejoined the Bermuda team full time to take on the role of Trainee Underwriter on the property reinsurance team. Prior to joining Hiscox, Nicholas received a Bachelor’s Degree in Monetary Finance Economics from the University of North Carolina Asheville, before graduating from the University of North Carolina Greensboro in May 2010 with a Masters in Applied Micro Economics. Nicholas is currently pursuing the ACII. |
